About the Pastor

Rev. Oscar Williams

During Pastor’s first assignment as Pastor of Venable Chapel Church in Greensburg, LA God gave Pastor a vision and, as with Solomon, gave him the assignment and instructions to build His house. Although it was his first assignment as a Pastor the Lord had spoken and the assignment at Venable Chapel had to come to an end. “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land”. So by faith they obeyed God and He opened the door to the vision. In Pastor’s home on November 25, 1995 with a podium, chairs, and an organ “Good News Ministries” was born with 13 members present at the first service. Then God said, “Oscar you have been faithful over a few now I’m going to make you ruler over many”. God instructed Pastor Williams to go to the city to expand His church. Pastor stepped out by faith and the Holy Spirit led him to New Orleans. God’s word was confirmed when Pastor, who is a “painter” by trade, was led to a church on “Painters Street”. Pastor walked into the church opened the doors, looked around and was overwhelmed with the work that was needed. He thought within himself this can’t be what God meant, for God said he was making him ruler over many. And then God said, “Oscar, do not despise small beginnings.”

Still walking by faith he began the work, unfolding another part of God’s plan to fulfill the Vision. Pastor began to rebuild and as with Nehemiah, Satan sent his Sanballots’ and Tobias’ to taunt Pastor while painting the outside of the church shouting, “Rev. Where all your members at?” Pastor remained on the wall. With five members (which included his wife, his daughter, his son, mother, and his sister), Pastor became ruler over many. Still walking by faith, Pastor preached as though there were 100 members they were not there physically but they were there spiritually. Members, friends, family and preachers, all with ideas of how Pastor should build and run the church came and left. But Pastor knew, “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.” Psalm 127:1 Through many setbacks and comebacks Mount Zion has not been removed but still abides trusting in the Lord. When God gives the Vision, God provides for the provision. Because of Pastor’s faith in God’s plan, with only a few members, the church never went without its bills paid. Then came a time when the end seemed as if it was at hand. A huge mortgage payment was due and at the end of the month or the church would be closed. Then God said, “You have been faithful over a few, I will make you ruler over many.” On May 5, 2002 (Pastor’s birthday) God sent two visitors that presented Pastor with $32,600 and the church was paid off. As Pastor says often, “Faith don’t make sense, but it makes miracles.” Mount Zion has not been removed but still abides trusting in the Lord.

New Beginnings

The church was then remodeled and completed in 2005. God then spoke to Pastor and told him that Good News Baptist Church will soon have a new building. Where, how, and when were not given to him but by faith Pastor started a building fund. Then Hurricane Katrina hit and the church was destroyed. God then directed Pastor to resume services in his home, two weeks later God led him to an interim church at the First Baptist Church, pastored by Dr. Rev. Benny Jones in Destrehan, LA. Before Pastor could ask, Rev Jones offered him the use of his church so that Good News Worship Services can go on. We were “Displaced but not Out-of-Place and we never stopped Serving God!” Mount Zion has not been removed but still abides trusting in the Lord. Before the Hurricane Pastor Williams would say repeatedly that he did not know how God was going to do it but not only will he build a new building it would be paid in full. Through many setbacks and obstacles God’s promises has been fulfilled. By faith Pastor never gave up. Still trusting from the end of an assignment at Venable Chapel the beginning in his home, ending in his home beginning on Painters St, the destroying of the building on Painters Street by Hurricane Katrina to worshiping at First Baptist, ending at First Baptist and holding service on the empty lot on Painters Street in a tent, to the Promised New Church that began construction in 2007 with many volunteers from out of state to the opening and

dedication service on July 22, 2008. Mount Zion has not been removed but still abides trusting in the Lord.
